Graphite and White Pastel on Gray Paper
Need to take some time to finish her hair and get those values in place and key all the values in before I go back to finish her face.

This is a Graphite and White Conte on Gray paper.
Actually there's very little graphite at this point... balancing the white against the dark pencil is always a critical so at this point I really like what I've got but am not sure as how to proceed. In one way I like it just the way it is leaving the hair and shirt as a simple suggestion.. I'm very pleased with the values across the face. It seems to describe the form quite well but I'm not sure how to integrate it into the remaining portrait. This is a good example why one should do a quick value study first...lol.

Tulsa Artist's Coalition Annual Member Show

Here's my entry in the TAC show this last weekend. I was pleased to be selected as the People's Choice Award--- for me that was a terrific honor.

That may have happened because the model who sat for this portrait was there. He really seemed to enjoy the evening visiting with everyone and was asked many times to have his picture taken by the portait. It was fun to see him having such a good time. I'm trying to get a copy of one of those pictures. I'll post it if I can.

This is larger than I usually do.
17 x 24" in a 24 x 30" frame.

Tulsa Pow Wow

Here's the drawing I submitted for the Gilcrease Show--- It was rejected. I'll try again next year. Never the less I think she has a wonderful and very hansom presence. I took this photo at a PowWow here in Tulsa.

16 x 20 Graphite and White Pastel on Gray

I started this portrait with the objective to learn how to use the white pencil... I was always too tentative and shy with the white and this portrait was a good teacher for me.

High contrast demanding a lot of white with strong transitions to the darks.

Many of my friends like this one... the title means "do you want?" I think it's a Tequilla bottle she's holding.

I entered this in the Bartlesville Art Show this year and was really pleased to take home the first place award. She also won the Peoples Choice Award.
